Guild of Investment Managers

Three classes of membership

All investment management professionals over the age of 18 are eligible to join our membership, and we welcome applicants at all stages of their careers from the UK and overseas.

UK members need to have an investment qualification from the Financial Conduct Authority’s Appropriate Qualification table which is at, or higher than, Level 4 (as defined by Ofqual through its Regulated Qualification Framework), which includes the IMC. There is provision for admitting individuals who practised before the regulation came into force.

There are three classes of membership, Members and Freemen of the City, the latter are eligible to become Freemen of the Guild, and Overseas members. Ultimately, should we eventually reach full Livery status, this will become Liverymen and Freemen of the Worshipful Company of Investment Managers.

Overseas Membership

The Guild welcomes Overseas members active in the investment management sector. Overseas membership rates are available to UK members moving overseas, and to investment management professional based permanently overseas whose business activity brings them to the City, or into contact with investment firms based in London. To qualify members should be based outside the UK for at least 12 months.

Applications require a proposer and seconder who are currently members of the Guild. Applicants who don’t know a current member are encouraged to apply and will be introduced to the Membership Committee to discuss their application. The Committee reviews applications on a monthly basis. Applicants will be informed of the outcome shortly afterwards. The Guild’s decision is final without an obligation to give reasons.
