If you are not yet a Freeman of the City but are interested in joining the Guild or becoming a Freeman, please get in touch with us to discuss the process.

Background

Did you know that once a year, Freemen and Liverymen drive herds of sheep across Southwark Bridge into the City? It is a unique event that celebrates the rich heritage of our city, and we want you to join us to take part in 2026!

Dating back to medieval times, shepherds would bring their sheep into the City of London to sell them at market. Freemen of the City were excused from the bridge toll that applied to other people crossing the bridge in recognition of their status as local traders. In 2013 the Worshipful Company of Woolmen resurrected this ancient right for charitable purposes, and the event was so successful that it has continued ever since. This year, the Master invites you to join him in taking part in this fabulous tradition on Sunday 27th September 2026.

*Please note that by purchasing a ticket, you consent to being photographed during the event. These images may be used by the Guild for marketing and promotional purposes.
